The Sojourn vol. 2
April Showers Bring May Flowers
As April comes to an end, we have many things to celebrate. First, we have almost filled both the Highground and The Well high school weeks in just one month for the summer. Donations are pouring in, and we are forever grateful for the continued support at Mahoning Valley. Second, in over two years, our first Camp Work Day was on April 23, 2022. Third, we have hired the summer staff for Mahoning Valley Summer Camp 2022. Lastly, the camp became an Angel Tree camp partner.
Summer Camp 2022
MVCSC Summer 2022 Registration is now open. Here are some things to remember when signing up for camp. Day Camp is FREE! Check with your home church to see what discounts they have. Also, take advantage of the Early Bird Sale that ends May 17. Camp registrations have been coming through our emails, and an average of 7 registrations a week. The high school weeks 9th-12th grades are almost complete. Register now to hold your spot by putting down a deposit. When you register, and the camp is full, you will be on a waitlist.
MVCSC Summer 2022 theme is RISE UP. Every child this summer will go home with a FREE t-shirt and a lifetime of memories.
We need your help!
We need two golf carts and a gator-type UTV to use or be donated for the summer. The gator has seen its previous life and used it for 15 years. Please call 765-932-5125 if you have any inquiries or would like to donate.
Camp Work Day 2022
April 23 was the best day to have a workday. 80-degree weather, 80 volunteers, and great food. Our volunteers set up the gaga pit, volleyball court, 9 square, and mudslide. They moved debris, cut trees, burned wood, and dug trenches and ground stumps. In addition, we were able to set up the outdoor kitchen, spring clean the dining hall and dorms, and clear out the Hanger and Retreat Center. This day has been a long time coming as it's been two years since I had a camp workday. Churches have come out for the past two years and adopted a day to volunteer their time, but an organized day of projects with 80 people who volunteered their time hasn't happened since before covid.
Summer Staff 2022
This year we had 20 applicants who wanted to work at Mahoning Valley. God is good because we only expected 2 to apply. So, next month, we will shout out to our 12 new summer staff employees. Some are familiar faces, but many are brand new to camp life. Tony, Jeremy, and I are excited for you to meet these beautiful individuals.
A camp experience can change a child’s life forever. Angel Tree camping is a chance for children of incarcerated parents to get away from their daily challenges and have fun in the great outdoors, making new friends and meet caring adult counselors. At camp, children encounter the love of Jesus and discover hope for the future. We partner with Angle Tree, which has camps across the U.S. that provide scholarships so that your child(ren) can attend a camp at little to no cost. To be eligible for the scholarship, your child(ren) must be between 5 and 18 and have an incarcerated parent or stepparent.
