I'm not a Certified Lifeguard - How do I get Certified?
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE CERTIFIED WHEN YOU APPLY FOR THIS POSITION. We provide lifeguard training/certification onsite during our staff training week.
What dates do Mahoning Valley summer employees work?
For 2025, our summer staff will come in on May 27. If you are a brand new employee you will recieve training. If you are returining then duties will be given. Summer camp officially begins on May 28. Our last session of camp is over on July 25. A total of 5 Saturdays will be scheduled.
Do we get any time off?
If you need a day off during the summer for some reason, these are dealt with on a case by case basis through the Director of Relations. Opportunities for weeks to tak off will be discussed in your interview. Note that you are only allowed 2 weeks off in the 9 week summer.
How much do you pay?
All summer staff starting out will make $9 hr. Every summer that you commit to Mahoning Valley you will increase to $1
What kind of things will be expected of me?
First and most importantly, you will be expected to have a strong relationship with Christ, which is evident in your daily behavior. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve (Phil. 2:5; Mt. 20:28). We will expect you to maintain an atmosphere of teamwork and encouragement not only with your fellow employees but also those attending camp as campers and faculty.

Will I be able to spend time with campers?
This is really something that depends on you and how you work. When your duties are done you are free to spend time with campers. In the evenings, our staff is encouraged to be at worship sessions. You won’t typically have time to be involved with family groups or teach classes unless you are hired as a cabin counselor.
Summer Staff Duties
Each summer, Mahoning Valley looks to hire summer staff. This nine-week commitment serves the grounds in a capacity that serves the Lord for good works. We are looking for 16 years and older to serve in the capacity of lifeguards, kitchen liaisons, dean liaisons, grounds, housekeeping, and media crew. As a summer staffer, you are allowed two weeks off in the entire 9-week summer. We ask that you know in advance the dates. Feel called to work and serve the youth of our next generation or have a love of summer camp, then hit the link and apply. We do determine summer staff a lot sooner than most summer jobs. We are only hiring ten positions this summer.
Each summer, Mahoning Valley looks to mentor future summer staff at Mahoning Valley. Teens in training are given a unique opportunity to learn about the different jobs on the grounds. As a TNT, you are to complete two weeks of serving.

Week one is all things groundswork. This will happen the first week of June, and you are a camper this week. Come in on Sunday and leave on Friday.

The second week is your choice and works with your schedule. It is Monday through Thursday, 8- 5 p.m.

Once you have successfully fulfilled the summer mentor program, you are gifted a free week of summer camp. ​​
